About Elvis

Was Elvis a Christian?

What a lot of People don't know is that Elvis was indeed a Christian.

What People need to understand is that Christians are human. They sin like anyone else.
Elvis was human and He was a Christian.

Christians have faults, sins, habits, addictions, hangups, and all of that, just like anyone else.

The only difference is that they are saved by the grace of God.

They are NOT saved by their works, or how good they are.
They are saved because of what Jesus did on Calvary.

Elvis recorded over 80 Gospel tracks during his career.
If nothing else, the King of Rock and Roll knew many lyrics that were based on Bible truths. But knowing and singing beautiful hymns does not make one a Christian.

Those who knew Elvis said he not only knew and sang hymns he actually loved Gospel songs.

After concerts, late at night, Elvis and his friends would sing classic Christian songs such as 'In the Sweet By and By'. But loving Gospel songs does not make one a Christian.

Elvis is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Rockabilly Hall of Fame. He was also inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2001. But being in the Gospel Music Hall of Fame makes no one a Christian.

Elvis started singing hymns as a child, attending church with his mother. At the age of 13 he moved to Memphis with his family and started his career in 1954. He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior as a child.

He would ventually become known as the King of Rock and Roll or simply
‘The King’.

There are many stories about Elvis’ respect for Christ. One such story goes like this:

One night at a concert fans unfurled a massive banner while Elvis was singing. The banner read: “Elvis is King!”

Elvis stopped in the middle of his song and clearly stated in the microphone: “There is only one king and He is Jesus Christ,” or something to that effect. Although, I do not know for a fact,
I personally believe that this truly happened.

It was a sad day when Elvis died. He was pronounced dead at 3:30 P.M, August 16, 1977 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Age 42.

I know that Elvis is in Heaven. In fact, I would like to think that all who are reading this story will be in Heaven.
So before you judge him and say how could he be a Christian and be a drug addict?

Well, let me say from experience.
I was saved as a child and I went through a 30 year drug addiction.
Jesus Christ, NEVER left me, even when I left him.

Yet, He finally delivered me from my addiction.

Now. Is it easy to stay clean?
The answer to that would be NO and YES!
It is a daily fight.
Some days are better than others.
I have to take it one day at a time!

But here is what I do know without a shadow of a doubt.

Should mess up again.
I know that my Lord will be right there with His loving mercy and He will deliver me again.
He will also help you!

I dare you to try Him!

After reading your blog, and taking a few moments to reflect, the thought came to me: It seems we humans are the only ones who have trouble with humanity. God doesn't seem to have a problem caring for us, no matter what state of human-ness we find in ourselves. Interesting read, Karen. I enjoy your art, too. It has a regal quality, a sense of openness and purity. Nice work!
